Why Locke & Kant?

Sometimes, life doesn’t go exactly as planned. Years ago, we owned several rent houses together, and we needed a legal partnership. We were also writing together, primarily about ethics, and wanted the partnership to include a legal basis for our writings.

We formed an LLC and decided it needed a name. Hmmm, what should that be? In a moment of whimsy, we settled on Locke and Kant. Why? English philosopher John Locke argued that property is a natural right, while German philosopher Immanuel Kant promoted ethics and duty as vital components for living a moral, rational life.

We owned property. We wrote about ethics. We like Locke. We like Kant. Let’s name the partnership after them!

We never planned for the partnership to evolve into a consulting company. After we sold the rent houses and completed our initial writings, we assumed we would dissolve the company.

But then life presented new opportunities, and we decided to continue the company. Today, Locke & Kant is a consulting company providing freelance services to clients who need assistance with research, writing, and/or editing. We believe that ethics and kindness should be cornerstones of business and life success, and as we move forward, our website will feature products designed to help individuals and businesses incorporate ethics and kindness as a formula for success.

The first product we have to offer is our book, “Manning’s: A Success Formula,” which is available here. If you who need guidance for how to develop and sustain a successful business, check out the Manning’s book. It includes recommendations for many aspects of business success, including personnel management, change management, women’s rights, product diversification, marketing techniques, and more. The book also explains the importance of ethical leadership and how to make ethics the foundation of business success.

Soon, we will provide a guide for buying and brewing coffee, using Manning’s techniques to create a perfect cup of java time after time at home, work, and elsewhere. This book will include a history of Manning’s coffee and examine Manning’s role as one of the first coffee stands in the Pacific Northwest.

Our coffee guide will be followed with a series of cookbooks featuring Manning’s more popular recipes for casseroles, breads, cakes, and many other tasty foods. Each cookbook will include a history of Manning’s restaurants, as well as an overview of the history of restaurants in the United States.

Later, we’ll release a book that tells Condi’s story. Learn about the challenges faced by this amazing kitty, and explore how she kept a positive attitude, even when faced with a debilitating illness. For years, Condi provided inspiration on Facebook and soon, others can read her story and be inspired by this amazing kitty’s kindness and determined approach to life.

We hope you’ll come along with us as we share more of the Manning’s story and Condi’s life. In a few months, we’ll also offer a book on ethics, as well as guides to incorporating ethics and kindness into business and life as a formula for success. In the meantime, stay positive and be kind.
